Smoke hangs in the air along Smallman Street in the Strip District. Yet unlike a century ago when it was the numerous factories and mills along the rivers belching smog into the atmosphere, today it’s the bakeries, coffee shops and eateries emitting fragrant wafts to tempt passers-by.
The Strip District Market tour features a behind-the-counter looMeet in the Strip District at Sunseri's (1901 Penn Ave, Pgh, PA 15k at a variety of eateries in Pittsburgh’s historic market district. This tour links local history with the eating establishments peppered along Penn Avenue with taste samples from around the world including Italian pastries, Mediterranean and Polish specialties, European meats and French bread.
When: November 14, 2013
Time: 3:00 pm (will leave promptly at 3:00, please be there by 2:50 pm)
Duration: Approximately 2 hours
Meet: Meet in the Strip District at Sunseri's (1901 Penn Ave, Pgh, PA 15222)
Weather: Tour takes place rain or shine
Dress: Wear comfortable shoes and clothing
Food: We taste on the go, the following is a list of items we will be tasting:
· Pepperoni bread and marinara sauce
· Biscotti
· Mele (Puff pastry)
· Pierogies
· Hummus and pita bread
· Ending at Parma with meat, cheese, bread and wine
Included: Tastings served on tour
Cost: Free for members, $40.00 per guest
Parking:
Metered street parking, and lots are located at the intersection of Penn Ave. and 20th Street and the intersection of Smallman Street and 23rd Street.
